Drug Use, Coercion, and Harassment: Senate detained Jojo Nunez After Sandro Muhlach's Testimony!
Senate Hearing Reveals Shocking Allegations of Sexual Harassment in Media Industry
Sandro Muhlach's Courageous Testimony
In a highly emotional and controversial Senate hearing, Sandro Muhlach recounted his harrowing experience of alleged sexual harassment involving Richard Cruz and Jojo Nunez, independent contractors associated with GMA Network. This marked the first time Sandro directly addressed the Senate via videoconference to share the details of the incident that occurred in the early hours of July 21, 2024, at a hotel in Pasay.
Sandro stated that after exchanging text messages with Nunez, he went to Nunez's hotel room. Upon arrival, Sandro found Nunez with Richard Cruz, who was allegedly intoxicated and lying on the bed. Nunez offered Sandro some wine and attempted to persuade him to use drugs. Although initially hesitant to provide details, Sandro later agreed to an executive session with the senators, where he disclosed further information.
Disturbing Details of Coercion and Drug Use
During the executive session, Sandro revealed that Nunez forced him to inhale drugs using a P500 bill. When asked how he felt after using the drugs, Sandro admitted that he felt weak and numb. He also disclosed that Nunez was the one who pulled him onto the bed. However, Sandro refused to elaborate further on what happened next. He did confirm that Nunez told him, "What happened here stays here."
When asked if he was sexually harassed, Sandro firmly replied, "Yes, Your Honor." Despite these serious allegations, Nunez and Cruz vehemently denied any wrongdoing. They claimed they had only socialized, listened to music, and talked in the hotel room.
Senate Orders Contempt Against Nunez
Due to Nunez's vague answers and outright denials, the Senate cited him for contempt. Senate President Pro Tempore Jingoy Estrada noted that Nunez's statements contradicted the affidavits of the victim and the testimony of GMA Senior Vice President Atty. Annette Gozon Valdez. Consequently, the Senate ordered Nunez's detention.
GMA Network Denies Allegations of a Cover-Up
Amid the allegations, GMA Network strongly denied covering up any cases of sexual harassment. The network stated that the investigation into Sandro's case is ongoing and that the accused individuals are under preventive suspension. GMA emphasized that it has strict policies against sexual harassment and that it has never protected any employee from such accusations.
GMA also clarified that employees are encouraged to report any incidents of harassment and can bring their concerns to the legal department, HR, or the Office of the President. The network reiterated that it does not condone any form of cover-up and would take administrative action against anyone involved in such activities.
These revelations highlight deep-rooted issues in the media industry concerning abuse of power and sexual harassment. As investigations and legal proceedings continue, victims like Sandro Muhlach are seeking justice and hoping for systemic changes in the industry they are part of. These disclosures serve as a crucial reminder to all institutions to remain vigilant in protecting their staff from any form of abuse.
